Exactly 100 years ago, in Dumlupınar, the Turkish nation won a great victory with Mustafa Kemal Atatürk’s supreme military command. We remember Atatürk who gave us this magnificent country and our martyrs with gratitude and wish you many happy holidays when we will make their souls feel proud by working hard and with honesty.
August 30th
This day comes every year, August 30th
I feel like I’m in the army.
Heads up, eyes like steel, moustached faces,
The flag is flapping, armies are passing by…
Steps of bronze, chests hard like iron,
Here come the soldiers and officers,
All carrying traces of victory on their foreheads.
Regiments pass by me in my dreams.
Gun carriages, black and red horses passing by,
Mountains, roads and cities passing by…
A thin crescent over fires!
The wounded, with struggle, passing by.
This swarm of glory, with a mad desire,
Roars and flows from Afyon to Ä°zmir.
Horses know no bit, swords know no scabbard,
Souls know no soul until victory.
What’s more fit for you in this world,
Than the traces of a morning’s victory on your forehead;
You, soldier, tell me, you great hero,
What’s more fit for you than victory?
This day comes every year, August 30th,
I feel that I won a victory.
Heads up, eyes like steel, moustached faces,
The flag is flapping, armies are passing by…
